Website Header Best PracticesWhile your website header doesn't take up a whole lot of real estate, it's still really important. It's no surprise that when it comes to header positioning, most prefer the tried and true top navigation. It makes for a seamless navigational experience.Regardless of where you place your header, there are some best practices to adhere to (courtesy of Wordstream).Check 'em out... Use color contrast: "At bare minimum, there should be a ratio of 4.5:1 between your headers’ background color and your chosen font. This goes for the header along with any secondary information included around it. You may also want to darken the background of a page once the header menu is displayed to make it more focused." Include a CTA: The header should lead folks to where you want them to go. Consider a GET STARTED, LEARN MORE, BUY NOW button in your navigation. Make it intuitive: Check out what your competition is doing and act accordingly. Your website header doesn't need to reinvent the wheel. Always come back to "simple." Optimize for mobile: "Unless you go with a font size only visible under a microscope, a horizontal header is not an option on mobile. The most common approach is to configure a hamburger menu for mobile browsing." Simple fonts: Don't make your navigation hard to read by using a font you think is 'cool.' Pick a tried and true serif or sans-serif font. Make it sticky: In other words, your navigation stays in the same place as users scroll.
