How to Market YourselfHaving a well-thought-out, professional bio is pretty dang important, but often overlooked. Whether you’re applying for a new job, networking, or growing your brand - a professional bio will give the world a quick snapshot of who you are and why they should care. When it comes to writing your bio, keep these things in mind:  Where is it going to live: Instagram? Linkedin? Your website? The length and tone will depend on the platform, so plan accordingly.   Start with your name: You want readers to remember your name so don’t be afraid to drop it a couple of times from the start.  Mention a brand name (or your own): Depending on what you do, make sure you associate your name to 1.) a business you work for or 2.) your own brand. For example: “Sarah Smith is the founder and CEO of Ramptown Consulting." See more examples here.   State your current position and what you do: “Don't assume your audience will naturally know what your job title entails.” Try to paint a picture of what your day looks like and how it has an impact on your industry.  A professional accomplishment: A humblebrag is more than ok. Don’t be afraid to let your audience know what you’ve achieved. Just keep it short and sweet.  Step away from work: After sharing your professional accomplishments, write a quick bit about who you are outside of work. This makes your bio a lot more relatable. For example; family life, hobbies, hometown, side hustles, etc.  Consider a personal story: “It's important to follow the steps above when writing your bio, but don't obsess over any one section. Remember, the people reading your bio are suffering from information fatigue. If you don't hook 'em in the first line, you'll lose them quickly.”Alright - wanna see how 20 people knocked their bios out of the park? Check ‘em out here.
