Beat Procrastination

We're sure you've heard of a lot of different ways to be productive. But, have you heard of this? It's called the 'house arrest strategy.'The 'house arrest strategy' was developed by Victor Hugo in 1830 so he could finish writing his book. He basically locked himself in his house. You don't have to go to that extreme. Here's how to beat procrastination using the house arrest strategy:

  • Write down a deadline in the near future: make it short enough to force you to take immediate action and long enough to finish your task.

  • Create negative consequences for inaction: miss a deadline? Do 100 pushups (or something like that).

  • Design your desired future action: 'put something in place today that will ‘lock in’ your actions tomorrow.' Example: shredding or locking up your credit cards to avoid debt.
