How to Split Test Properly

If you're playing the guessing game on your marketing campaigns, there's an easier way.Answer: Split TestingAccording to Hubspot, split testing is a marketing experiment wherein you split your audience to test several variations of a campaign and determine which performs better. Here are some helpful tips before and after you split test...

  • Pick one variable to test: While there's a lot to test, make sure you're isolating one variable at a time.

  • Choose your goal: Know what metric you're focusing on before you test and write out a hypothesis. Don't do this after testing. It'll be too late.

  • The results: Think about how significant your results need to be to justify choosing one variation over another. A confidence level of 95% or higher is preferrable.

  • Run one test a time: "If you A/B test an email campaign that directs to a landing page at the same time that you’re A/B testing that landing page, how can you know which change caused the increase in leads?" Don't overcomplicate things.

  • Use an A/B test tool: If you're using an email service provider, there's likely an A/B testing tool available. For websites, check out Google Analytics, which lets you A/B test up to versions of a web page.
