💪 Score Your Content Like a Pro: Make Data-Driven Decisions for What Works
Ever wonder which content is actually pulling its weight and which is just… there? Time to introduce content scoring—a system to help you decide what’s worth keeping, tweaking, or ditching.
Let’s get tactical on how to set up a content scoring process that makes sense:
Try this:
Define Success Metrics:
First, figure out what “good” looks like. Is it traffic? Engagement? Conversions?
Assign a few key metrics that actually tie back to your goals (e.g., page views, bounce rate, lead gen, etc.). The more specific, the better.
Create a Scoring System:
Use a simple 1-5 scale for each metric (where 5 is “crushing it” and 1 is “not so much”).
Make it easy to tally up scores, so you get a quick snapshot of performance. For example, a blog post with a score of 15+ out of 20? That’s a winner.
Review Regularly:
Don’t let this be a “set it and forget it” process. Schedule monthly or quarterly reviews to see how content is stacking up.
Look for patterns in top-performing pieces. Are certain formats or topics consistently scoring higher? Double down on those.
Example:
Say you’re scoring a blog post on a scale of 1-5 across four metrics: traffic, engagement, time spent, and conversions. If it scores 18/20, congrats—you’ve got a high-performing post worth replicating. A 7/20? Time to rethink the topic, format, or audience targeting.
Why it works:
Content scoring gives you a clear, no-BS way to identify what’s driving real results and what’s dead weight. Instead of guessing (or letting personal bias creep in), you’re making data-backed calls.
