Check This Number Before Your Next LinkedIn Post
LinkedIn started splitting your reach into two numbers: in-network and out-of-network. In-network is people who already follow you. Out-of-network is everyone else the algorithm decided to show your post to.
Is your content strategy working? Or are you mainly showing up to existing contacts? Not that thatβs a bad thing, but you want your posts finding new followers.
Try this:
π Find the metric. Go to any post, click the analytics icon and look for the in-network/out-of-network breakdown under reach.
π Pull your last 5-10 posts. Compare numbers and look for patterns.
π Know the benchmark. Anything under 20-25% out-of-network means you're mostly talking to people who already know you.
π Sort by format. Compare text-only posts vs. carousels vs. posts with a poll or question in the first line. The format with the highest out-of-network percentage is overall better than the one with the most likes.
πͺ Fix the hook. Out-of-network reach is decided fast, usually in the first 1-2 lines. If your out-of-network number is low across the board, rewrite your openers to ask a question or make a claim.
β Re-test monthly. The algorithm shifts. What earned you 40% one month might look totally different a few months down the line.
Optimize and find new eyes. π

If you're posting on LinkedIn regularly, you need more than LinkedIn's native analytics tab to spot patterns.
